The appraiser's report and floorplan is a document that can be used to prove the accurate Gross Living Area (GLA), the sum of all livable space, of your home. These services are helpful and often essential when disputing property taxes or selling a property. How does a measurement service work?During a floorplan service, a certified appraiser takes measurements of your property with a measuring tool — either a tape measure or laser measuring device. As they move around the property, they observe the layout of the rooms and other features, like closets, entryways, and fireplaces. They might make a rough sketch of the property. Then, the appraiser develops a report and detailed floorplan showing the total square footage and the general layout of the home. The finished report is a document that can be used to prove certain specs of your property — like the Gross Living Area (GLA) — on tax documentation, home listings, and more.
